Everyday Rurality Chat #143

Everyday Ruralty

QUESTIONS

  1. Do you have a vegetable garden this year? Have you in previous years? I do have a vegetable garden. Last year was the first year in many years (ever) that I gardened. I used children's swimming pools as my gardens. These are pictures from last year. Our Spring planting time was so late this year that it is with a prayer and a dream for the gardens this year.

  2. What is your computer sitting on right now? Desk, dining room table, lap... I  have a big comfy chair. Overstuffed is what it is called. It has huge arms which have flat tops. Perfect for setting a computer.
  3. Do you go shorter with your hair in the summer? If my hair were any shorter there wouldn't be any. Which is something I have been considering. My hair is getting thinner and thinner, with more patches of skin showing through. I have been contemplating cutting it all  off.
  4. Are you an early top bed person, or a night owl? I go in the bedroom about 8, climb into bed, an read til about 10 or so. I like to get up early and hear the woods waking up.
  5. Tell me something funny. I'll tell you something funny too. :) A couple of weeks ago I told my neighbor that we had had a bear walk through the yard. She laughed and said I could keep it my yard. I laughed and told that no I was going to send him down to her. She let me know yesterday that he had in fact made a nighttime visit. She told me again to keep him at my house, I laughed and said now that he was there he was going to have to stay. This is a discussion we have every year. She trumped me this year though by having a cougar come to visit. I think I'll take my bear back.                                   (was this funny)

  1. Thank you Denise. I hope the pictures didn't come through to you as large as they did on my end.

  2. Trudy, I love your idea of using the children's swimming pools for your garden beds! SO clever!

Hearing the woods wake up is the most special time of day!

SO...if you don't mind my asking, do you live out near the Rockies? That's quite the funny story...not sure how funny the end is though. I live in WV and it isn't uncommon for us to have bears around us, but a Bob Cat is the closest we get to anything like your cougars.

Thanks for stopping by my blog today...and for the "follow". I always reply to the comments there on the blog. So there is a little note over there for you. :)

    1. I live in Minnesota Dianna. It is rare for a cougar to be in our area, but it has happened in the past too. We have just never had one so close. I live halfway between Minneapolis and Duluth/

  4. Love the photos of the plants. I absolutely LOVE seeing the plants coming through and growing. It's such an amazing feeling, isn't it :)

Wow - can't imagine having bears and cougars paying us visits. We don't have such exotic animals here!
Anne (in Scotland, land of plain ol' boring animals!)

  6. I remember your pool gardens from last year, and wished I'd thought of that! I really liked the idea for smaller gardening projects.
Oh my, all of this talk of bears and cougars visiting! I'll stick with my rabbits and deer--and an occasional coyote
    I enjoyed your post :).

  7. I didn't want to have to can or freeze anything. Especially not as much as you do! However, this fall I am thinking of doing tomatoes and applesauce.
